I cheated a bit, because my first job was in a supermarket (like Hyper U) Friday evenings and Saturdays (called a Saturday Job) and it wasn't very interesting! So I spoke about my second job in a London theatre!
We didn’t live in London, but every Sunday my sister and I took a train to work at The Victoria Palace, sometimes we worked at the London Palladium – the most famous theatre in London!
We got the job because my brother worked in the theatres and they needed extra staff at the weekend to check the tickets, show people to their seats and sell ice-creams and drinks in the interval.
We saw some amazing concerts: pop, rock, classic, cabarets – we even worked at the show “Annie” and "The King and I" with Yul Brynner.
We met famous people and even got autographs from some of them.
The pay covered the train fare, a box of mini ice-creams (if there were any left) after the interval, a burger after the show and either the bus or taxi to the station to catch the last train back to Aylesbury!
One evening we missed the train and had to get the first train back to Aylesbury the next morning, I remember falling asleep in my lessons.
It was an amazing experience, and it gave me a taste of what I wanted to do as a job later on in life.
